  • The challenge

Every successful project begins with a clear understanding of the client’s operational environment, energy requirements, and long-term business objectives.

Ekurhuleni Tariff E was already competitive, but a further 12% increase meant Rema Tip Top needed to reduce electrical cost.

The factory has multiple incomers next to each other feeding different parts of the plant. Major structural repairs were required, roof space was limited, and generator integration had to be sized correctly for each load. Safety of contractors and employees was a non-negotiable.

  • Our solution

Working closely with the client, our team designed a solution that balanced engineering excellence, financial viability, and long-term operational performance.

Two grid-tied solutions were designed on the same roof, installed in the same plant room, but with two different points of connection: 551 kWp / 440 kW on a PPA.

Limited space required unique layouts, additional truss strengthening, and removal of existing vents and chimneys to free roof area for panels. Generator integration and load sizing for each incomer had to be right first time.

Year-one solar savings are modelled at R2.22 million, with a 10-year NPV of R8.37 million.
